The Antlers | "Kettering" (Unofficial Video)

Seems a fan really loved the song "Kettering" from The Antlers' emotionally invoking (and one of our favorites of the year) Hospice album and decided to make a video using still images. It really looks amazing set to the song. Even the band thinks it's awesome. (via)

The Antlers are currently on tour with Minus the Bear and will be stopping in San Antonio this Sunday to perform at the White Rabbit (purchase tickets here). We'd really love to go, but will be enjoying ourselves some Fun Fun Fun Fest action all week, starting tomorrow. Also be sure to check out the band's Daytrotter session that just came out a few days ago.

The Antlers | 2009 U.S. Fall Tour Dates

The Antlers at 229 (246/365) by crazybobbles.
We were extremely excited to catch The Antlers last month at Monolith Fest (see our recap). Trust us, this is a band you definitely want to go see for yourself. And if you don't own their album Hospice, you're sleeping on one of the best albums to be released this year. Listen to a couple of tracks down below if you're still in need of convincing.

Monolith Fest Recap: The Antlers

After walking around with our jaws on the ground in awe of the beauty of Red Rocks, we finally managed to make it down to the WOXY stage. The stage was located downstairs and inside, conveniently away from the cold and rain. We were greeted by an extremely packed room full of people with their sights set on checking out The Antlers, a band we also had on our must-see list. The band didn't disappoint, and right off the bat set the bar extremely high for the rest of the performers for the entire weekend. Definitely one our favorites sets!

We also shot a video for their song, "Shiva".

Monolith Festival Spotlight : The Antlers

We will definitely be getting to Monolith Festival early on Saturday to catch The Antlers, one of the bands we have on our must-see list. Their album Hospice is hauntingly beautiful and sure to finish atop many blogger's and other site's best-of-lists (including ours). It garnered an 8.5 review from Pitchfork and NPR placed it at the top of their best-of-list so far.

A little background on the band:

Peter Silberman, vocalist/guitarist (and many more instruments) of The Antlers originally started releasing music under his name after moving to Brooklyn a few years back. He immersed himself in recording in a new city, even isolating himself from friends and family. In 2007, he released In the Attic of the Universe, but after getting tired of working by himself he befriended Michael Lerner (drums, percussion) and Darby Cicci (keyboards, trumpet, bowed banjo) to help him make up the rest of the band.

As we mentioned earlier the band's most recent album Hospice is extremely powerful. It features a story of a man that loses a loved one to bone cancer and staying by her bedside until she unfortunately passes. The lyrics (download the liner notes here) are incredibly heartfelt and triggers emotions that far too many families have had to endure, myself included. Originally independently released by the band in March, it sold more copies than they could keep up with. French Kiss Records noticed and signed the band immediately. Hospice has since been re-mastered and re-released as of last month.

If you'd like to read more about The Antlers, Austin blog Pink Lip Pariah interviewed Peter Silberman when the band was in town this past June when they opened for Au Revoir Simone. WOXY even recorded a live session with the trio earlier this year as well, listen to it here.
