ACL 2010 | Sunday Schedule

Out Top Picks for Sunday.

11:20 - 12:00 TV Torso - Local favs and ex Sound Team members make their festival debut.

11:45 - 12:30 Shearwater vs Warpaint - Two great bands but we think you know where we will be. Warpaint are a can't miss.

12:30 - 1:15 White Rabbits - The band will spend the next few months touring with Interpol. Never seen them live and ready to see what they are all about.

1:15 - 2:00 Foals - One of the most underrated acts on the bill. They have released two stellar albums and had one of the best performances at Lollapalooza 08.

2:00 - Devendra Banhart and the Grogs - Any incarnation that features Banhart is sure to be both entertaining and interesting.

3:00 - 4:00 The Morning Benders vs Gayngs - The Morning Benders have released one of the best albums of the year but the Bon Iver side project Gayngs channels it's inner George Michael. Going to split it. The Morning Benders will be the stand outs but Gayngs won't be doing much touring.

4:00 - 5:00 Yeasayer - We have seen them a millions times at a million festivals over the last 2 years but no one else was playing at the same time. Win by default.

5:00 - 6:00 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - They are amazing live performers and are perfect in a festival setting. Just beware of all the people that come to see them because they were in that Ford commercial...

6:00 - 7:00 The Flaming Lips vs Band of Horses - Wayne Coyne have our vote mostly because of their stage show. But Band of Horses are such a beautiful band live. The best bet is to split it and finish off with the Lips.

7:00 - 8:00 The National - Do we even need to explain this one? One of the best bands in the world right now performing songs from there near perfect catalog. Can't think of a better way to finish things off. People will be talking about this one for a while.

ACL 2010 | Saturday Schedule

Our top picks for Saturday.

12:15 - 1:00 Lissie
- A talented singer who made a stir earlier this year with her cover of Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance'. Expect people to be waiting to hear that one but stick around because she has a lot of great tracks.

12:30 - 1:30 The Very Best - Vampire Weekends current tour mates and with good reason. You can definitely see the similarities in sound. Ezra Koenig cameos on the track "Warm Heart of Africa". Maybe he will make an appearance?

1:30 - 2:30 Bear In Heaven - One of our favorite new bands and stand outs during the SXSW music conference. The band has been touring all over the world this year and are a must see. Promise.

2:20 - 3:00 Two Door Cinema Club - This electro pop group made the rounds this year opening for Phoenix. We will see how well they come across in the early part of the day. Should still be fun though.

4:30 - 5:30 Broken Bells vs Local Natives vs Silversun Pickups - We're over the Pickups and although Broken Bells released a great debut this year we have to go with Local Natives. They are a band on the brink of great things and this will be reminiscent of Arcade Fires afternoon performance in 05. Essential.

5:30 - 6:30 Kinky vs The xx - Kinky has been called the mexican Radiohead and The xx are all the rave right now. We have to go with The xx but if you get annoyed with the swelled crowd they are sure to attract stop by and check out Kinky.

6:30 - 7:30 Gogol Bordello vs LCD Soundsystem - Depend on your party mood at that point of the day. If you are feeling gritty we say Gogol Bordello is the way to go but if that isn't your thing LCD is a good option. Going to try to split this one.

7:30 - 8:30 Deadmau5 vs Matt and Kim - Going to take a chance on Deadmau5. I think with a late set that the stage set up should be worth checking out. If you are feeling bummed out stop by Matt and Kim. That will get you pepped up..

8:30 - 10:00 Muse vs M.I.A - Kind of over both these but they should both be interesting to watch. Tough one but I would say open with M.I.A and then make your way to Muse to see some theatrics.

ACL 2010 | Friday Schedule

Our top picks for Friday.

3:00 - 4:00 Miike Snow vs Girls
- Tough one so I am going to start off with Girls and then head over to Miike Snow. Both are kinda tough at such an early part of the day but should be a good way to start things off at the festival.

4:00 - 5:00 The Black Keys - They have blown up over the last few years while not losing any of the style that made them so great in the first place. I'll see this band any chance I get so this is a no brainer.

5:00 - 6:00 Beach House vs The Sword - If you seek metal then you don't need this recommendation but I have to go with Beach House. Great live and perfect for the middle of the day.

6:00 - 7:00 Spoon - We have seen them a dozen times over the last few years but they always deliver a fun performance.

7:00 - 8:00 Sonic Youth vs Vampire Weekend - Going to go see Sonic Youth. Just feels like the right thing to do.

8:00 - 9:30 The Strokes - Maybe they are cashing in but they will always be one of my favorite bands. I can't wait to see them for the second time in just a few days.

ACL 2010 | After Parties: Amanda Blank at Scoot Inn (10/8)

There’s a small list of artists that can sing, rap, write sophisticated pop songs and perform them with irresistible charisma. The list of female performers that can do all of that is even smaller, and Amanda Blank is skyrocketing to the top of it. Her verse is a serious exercise in lyrical acrobatics as runs circles around the beat. Blank is part of a loose collective of musicians that include Spank Rock, Santigold, and Diplo and took the world by storm with her album ‘I Love You’ released last year.

ACL 2010 | Spotlight: The Morning Benders

ACL Discovery Series: The Morning Benders

The Morning Benders are one of the most exciting bands that we have had the pleasure to come across this year. Listen to the track "Excuses" and I dare you not to fall in love with this band. Since their explosive run at this years SXSW (including a stop at our SXSW show) the band released one of the best albums out this year "Big Echo", done the festival circuit and toured with Broken Bells and Black Keys. "Big Echo" is filled with so much sunny pop that you can't help but make Brian Wilson comparisons. To really get a feel of the band check out this video of them performing "Excuses" on Yourstru.ly.

Now the band makes their way back to Austin for a 3:00pm slot on Sunday performing on the Lady Bird Lake Stage. We expect great things from this band so we highly suggest catching them early on so when the are headlining in a few years you can brag to your friends. Don't believe us? We said the same thing about Arcade Fire....

Video: The Flaming Lips on Letterman

Hands down the best sounding musical guest I have ever seen on Letterman in a while. And I have to say it's nice seeing the bands ability to give a great performance without all the theatrics that they have become known for. The band will be in Austin on Sunday October 10th for the Austin City Limits Festival. They play the AMD stage at 6:00pm.
