Show Spotlight: Fashion Freakout 3 at The Mohawk | Tonight (2/5)

Ladies and gentleman, get ready for the third annual FASHION FREAKOUT, a catwalk collaboration of rock-minded trendsetters hell-bent on outfitting Austin's most fashion backward. PROTOTYPE VINTAGE DESIGN, NEW BOHEMIA, and BUFFALO EXCHANGE define Austin style by mixing time-tested vintage trends with a taste of today, for the look of tomorrow.

Come see what each local style staple has to offer in the way of men's and women's clothing and jewelry, with hair and make-up by AVANT SALON and SPA. The MOHAWK's multilevel terrace provides vantage points aplenty as PROTOTYPE VINTAGE DESIGN sets the scene with stage and party décor fit for a rock-n-roll queen.

Come on and get it on early with rock-n-roll deejay sets from BEN BLACKOUT and ANGEL the RIPPER, drink specials, and a Proto-Photo Booth snapped by the one and only ALISON NARRO. Friday night's feelin' alright with MATT BEARDEN playing master of ceremonies and the good lookin' lads and lasses from THE CARROTS will perform two sets intent on getting some booties shimmying and a shakin'.

This rock-n-roll fashion show welcomes all ages to join in the psychedelic freakout. Both oldies but goodies and the youth of today will find fashion inspiration in this shindig, and it's only ten bucks. Every year the show has sold out, so don't be fashionably late, the doors open at 7pm, and the cuties hit the catwalk promptly at 9pm.

DEATH to make first and only festival appearance at this years Fun Fun Fun Fest

Fun Fun Fun Fest might just be our favorite festival. No lame mainstream acts and a focus on only the best up and coming acts. Even more notably they are becoming THE festival for reuniting old school punk acts. Think of them the way you think of Coachella reuniting new wave bands on their bill every year.

This year in addition to the acts they have already announced they just hit us with the news that Detroit trio DEATH will be making their first and only festival appearance at this years Fun Fun Fun Fest. Now I have to admit the band is before my time and I only gave it my first listen tonight. I might have to go to music blog jail for admitting that but I think part of the goal of any fest is schooling people on bands they might not have other wise known about. New or old.

Here is a track from the band, get familiar....

DEATH - Politicians [Note:: This was recorded in 1976!!!]

Yellow Bike Project 12th Anniversary tonight at Red 7

The Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP) is a community supported ALL-VOLUNTEER 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing human-powered transportation for the people of Austin, running a community bike shop, and educating kids and adults. People-power is a way to limit the traffic congestion of a rapidly growing city. It also provides an inexpensive, healthy, and sustainable alternative to the reliance on motor vehicles. Our project promotes cleaner air, land, and water, while encouraging people to meet their transportation needs through an active lifestyle and community participation.

FREE WEEK 2009

For years Graham Williams booked Emo's.  He had the awesome idea to put together a Free Week at the beginning of every year to showcase all the great local bands Austin had to offer.

In 2007, Williams left Emo's to start his own company, Transmission Entertainment.  His company are the ones behind Fun Fun Fun Fest and do the booking for Mohawk, Red 7, Lamberts, Club De Ville, and the soon to be opened Radio Room.  Now his clubs will be getting in on the act of Free Week.

It's all going on January 2nd - 10th and we're here to help you get ready for the shows, every single day.  Stay tuned all week (we should have a post everyday), we've picked out the shows that caught our eye and we'll have a little more info on the bands.
