Spotlight + Giveaway: Dancehall Freakin | EP Release Party Tonight at The ND

Tonight!!!! at The ND, T Bird and The Breaks are unleashing CHUNK music on your poor souls with their new EP Dancehall Freakin’. Get a copy of the EP plus free beer from 9 – 10 pm with your ticket purchase, grab tickets here: [BUY TICKETS]

In case you aren’t familiar with T Bird and The Breaks, they have been a long time Austin favorite, performing at huge festivals like ACL and Fun Fun Fun Fest and selling out Continental Club, Mohawk, etc. for the past few years. Nationally they have toured with Galactic, toured the country themselves and are playing Festivale International in Louisiana for the second time this year.

T Bird and The Breaks have been turning naysayers on their head when people ask what an “Austin band” sounds like, combining the forces of funk, hip hop and rock n’ roll into a fusion of garage soul and king sized retro beats. They are calling it CHUNK music. What is CHUNK music? A form of twenty-first century American music consisting of equal parts funk, hip-hop, and rock and roll characterized by its rough sonic quality and energetic, visceral performance.

“It’s like if Gil Scott Heron hooked up with The Ramones, Jay Electronica made music with The Meters, or the Violent Femmes worked with Nas mashed with what the typical T Bird listener would recognize” – T Bird, of T Bird and the Breaks.

Mainlining creativity into hours of studio time and production, T Bird and The Breaks are charging the gate bringing CHUNK music from the underground to your doorstep in 2012.

This party will feature:
Performances by T Bird and The Breaks, Brownout and Special Guests
FREE BEER from 9 – 10 pm (while supplies last)
A FREE copy of the EP with your ticket purchase
Live Screen Printing of T Shirts from Twin Villain
Live art by Micca Toone
Visuals by 4TH WALL
A Psychedelic Time Freezer by Tito’s

Show Spotlight: Blank Fritz, Missions, Spells and Sorne at The Ghost Room (Tonight)

We are winding down to the last few shows at The Ghost Room before it closes it's doors and tonight Knuckle Rumbler has a great one for you. Blank Fritz (formerly Sunset), Missions, Spells (formerly MothFight) and Sorne all for only $5. I notice I have been doing a lot of (formerly)'s lately. What's with bands changing their names all the time? And while were on the subject why are they Sunset on the Gorilla vs Bear bill but Blank Fritz on this one? And when did they lose the {{{ }}}?? Is it time for me to change my name and play the (formerly Ultra8201) card? These questions plague me... Whatever he goes by Bill Baird is one of Austin's greatest talents and Missions are phenomenal so DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. Oh and if you show up on a bike you get $1 Lone Star!

Blank Fritz (formerly Sunset), Missions, Spells, Sorne
Art installation by Vid Kidz and One of One
May 19th (Tonight) @ The Ghost Room

Show Spotlight: BIG KRIT, FREDDIE GIBBS, SMOKE DZA at The Mohawk Tonight!!

From Knuckle Rumbler:

We are so excited to be bringing you an all star hip hop lineup next week. Big K.R.I.T. the rap phenomenon that came of Mississippi, who’s critically acclaimed mixtape ‘KRIT Wuz Here’ has been riding, leaning, and crawling through car stereo systems on repeat since it’s drop. Not only was KRIT one of the 2011 XXL Freshman, but he also headlined the Nah Right and Smoking Section’s Grand Ole Party. Not only does KRIT rap but he makes his own beats. If that wasn’t enough, Freddie Gibbs will also be joining KRIT on the bill. Gibbs played an AMAZING surprise set recently at the Grand Ole Party, also an XXL Freshman, a Pitchfork favorite, and has been compared to sounding like Tupac mixed with Bun B who he has now collaborated with (video shot in Austin). Smoke DZA, a Smoker’s Club favorite joins the lineup to make this one of the biggest up and coming hip hop shows this year.

Tonight! Lean Hounds, The Nouns, Low Times and These Are Words at The Ghost Room

We are taking a break from all this pre-SXSW madness to sponsor an awesome show with awesome people tonight at the Ghost Room. Some of Austin's best and brightest on stage and absolutely no cover charge. Doors are at 9pm and all the other info is below. See you there!

My grandfather always used to say "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb," and local party enthusiasts Knuckle Rumbler seem to be taking that literally with their next round of shows at the Ghost Room on March 3rd, sponsored by The Republic of Austin, Ultra8201 and Red River Noise. Last month it was free Harpoon, this month it's free entry, which means more funds for the Ghost Room special (a shot of Jack and an ice cold Pearl) and plenty of merch, which you'll be eager to snatch up in the wake of Lean Hounds and the rest of the bill. Ex-members of Haunting Oboe Music, Lean Hounds conjure the same raw, biting overtones as early Modest Mouse with their stripped-down approach, only the euphoric, wavering synth lines that hover off in the distance make you feel as though your Baby Blue Sedan is submerged in water. These Are Words build you up for Lean Hounds with their twangy, off-kilter burst of composed aggression that takes the form overcast surf guitar and cosmically entrancing vocals. The Nouns and Low Times get you started with their uptempo, eclectic blend of angst-driven rock which starts promptly at 9:00, so make sure you scrounge up the free cover and get to the Ghost Room in time to catch all the revelry before it's too late.

March 3rd @ The Ghost Room
304 W. 4th Street
with Lean Hounds, The Nouns, These Are Words, My Womans Angry
Doors @ 9pm, cover: FREE SHOW
This show is 21+ only

Bands:
Lean Hounds
The Nouns
These Are Words

Show Spotlight: Shapes Have Fangs at The Ghost Room Tonight (2/10)

Because we love the interns so so much and everyone else involved is pretty bad ass we HIGHLY suggest everyone get down to The Ghost Room tonight. Cold or warm I want to see your face there.

Details:

A new year, a fresh lineup of events: Knuckle Rumbler is kicking things off in a big way on February 10th, with Shapes Have Fangs headlining the first of many concerts this spring at the Ghost Room. Like a 50’s blues 45 sped up a little too fast, Shapes Have Fangs keep the surf rock flowing while lead guitarist/vocalist Dustin Coffey’s edgy melodies and thrashing guitar riffs spark like two stones struck together.

Rayon Beach gets you prepped, luring you away from the waves and back towards shore with their overdriven, echoed-out garage rock that sounds like an intermittent radio broadcast of a beach party from another dimension. 60’s blues rock-inspired three-piece The Daze and the raucously tripped out Eets Feats round out 4+ hours of Austin’s most dynamic live acts, which did we mention is all for only 5 bucks?

Red River Noise, Austin Town Hall and Republic of Austin all sponsor this event where the first 100 through the door receive a free drink, courtesy of Waterloo Ice House. Birds Barbershop will be on hand hosting a photo booth (don’t worry, there will be plenty of gaudy wigs and hairspray to go around) and future Knuckle Rumbler tickets will be raffled off throughout the night. The show begins promptly at 9:00 PM, so make sure you’re there in time to grab your free adult beverage catch Eets Feats kick off what is to be a hazy night of fuzzed out retro rock and the first of many Knuckle Rumblings at the Ghost Room this spring.

February 10 @ The Ghost Room
304 W. 4th Street
with Shapes Have Fangs, Rayon Beach, The Daze and Eets Feats
Doors @ 9pm, cover: $5
Chance you will leave with somebody: 70%

ACL 2010 | After Parties: Amanda Blank at Scoot Inn (10/8)

There’s a small list of artists that can sing, rap, write sophisticated pop songs and perform them with irresistible charisma. The list of female performers that can do all of that is even smaller, and Amanda Blank is skyrocketing to the top of it. Her verse is a serious exercise in lyrical acrobatics as runs circles around the beat. Blank is part of a loose collective of musicians that include Spank Rock, Santigold, and Diplo and took the world by storm with her album ‘I Love You’ released last year.

Designer Drugs - Thursday (9/16) at Republic Live

Designer Drugs (Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson) lead lifestyles of the rich and famous, but are really just poor boys who love helicopters and pop banger music…and a few other things that will not be noted. Currently, Designer Drugs is releasing new material with Iheartcomix Records. They’ve also been found partying on the couch at the Iheartcomix office.

With one member attending med school and the other drinking whiskey across the globe, to keep from going crazy last year – the DD boys produced over 23 remixes and DJ’d over 100 shows around the world. This year, to keep from going crazy, Designer Drugs is putting the focus on original material while continuing to tour the galaxy and party harder than ever.
