Matador, WOXY & Austinist Present Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010 at Beerland

Matador Records - Casual Victim Pile - Compilation

As mentioned in our [previous post] last October, Matatdor Records is set to release a compilation of Austin music on 1/26 and now they just announced a string of live performances. They also teamed up with WOXY and Austinist for the show. Here are the full details from the Facebook announcement:

On January 26, Matador Records will release Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010, a compilation of Austin (and a bit of Denton) music. In February, WOXY and Austinist will join Matador in presenting a three-night showcase at Beerland celebrating the release.

The celebration is slated for February 4-6 at Beerland and includes Follow That Bird!, Dikes Of Holland, Kingdom Of Suicide Lovers, Distant Seconds, The Persimmons, Woven Bones, The Young, Wild America, Flesh Lights, Elvis, The No No No Hopes, Harlem, Golden Boys, Bad Sports, Love Collector, Stuffies and Lost Controls. That’s every band on the comp except Tre Orsi (who will be out of town) and The Teeners (broken up).

With a modest $5 cover for each night, we’re sure you’ll be able to squeeze in some tremendous local talent on all three evenings. Still unsure about whether or not you should show up? WOXY is giving away three-night passes between now and February 4: send us an email to woxycontests @ gmail.com and use the subject line Casual Victim Pile. We’ll let you know if you’ve won by Feb. 4.

Casual Victim Pile is still available for preorders from The Matador Store, double vinyl for the discount price of $15.30, single CD for $8.50.

Tune in to the Tuesday, January 5 episode of Local Lixx Austin, which will feature information about the shows as well as some teasers for the record.

Tentative lineup is after the jump.

Dark Was The Night Listening Party (2/17) @ the Mohawk

Last month, we wrote a post telling you about Dark Was The Night, a 2-disc compilation that features a number of great indie artists, including Arcade Fire, Feist w/ Grizzly Bear, Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket, Spoon, and Bon Iver to name a few.  Check out the full thirty-one song tracklist here.

The album benefits the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS.  Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease, and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it.

The double-disc is due out on February 17th via 4AD and in celebration of the release, Austinist has teamed up 4AD, Insound, and AIDS Services of Austin's Viva Las Vegas event (taking place Saturday, February 21st @ Austin Music Hall) to host a listening party and happy hour on the album's release date, February 17th at the Mohawk indoors (FREE, all ages) at 5 pm and listen to the album in its entirety while enjoying $1 Pabst. Donations will be taken for AIDS services of Austin, and they'll be giving out prizes throughout the event.

Austinist is also giving away a copy of the album.  The album will be distributed to the winner at the listening party.

A quick walk through the venue leads up to a great performance from local faves Zykos (there you go Aaron). The free vodka was more than we could all handle. Much thanks to Pure Volume and the Austinist for putting together such a great night.
