Kanye West at The FADER FORT?

We have been sitting on this one for a few days but today the rumors started circulating and we thought we would throw in our opinion. Or make the rumor worse?

Everyone is talking about Kanye West being the surprise guest on Saturday at The FADER Fort. The line up boast performances by Rick Ross, Jadakiss and others. But it's the last set of the show that makes this rumor seem like it might be true. From 8:30 - 11 they have it listed as "Good Music with Kid Cudi, Big Sean, GLC, Consequence, Really Doe, Tony Williams, Mr. Hudson and special guests".  GOOD MUSIC  just happens to be a label ran by none other than Mr.West and he has been heavily promoting Kid Cudi over the last few weeks and even appearing with him on occasion. Plus his DJ (A-Trak) is in town doing a couple of shows during the week.

We drove by the new venue last night and it looks like they have constructed a rather large stage and it's a lot bigger site than last year. Could this be true? Is he still rocking that mullet?

I might get there early Saturday.....

SXSW Recap / The Fader Fort / 3.13.08

Lou Reed
Lou Reed

Seeing since we had so much fun at the Fader Fort yesterday, we couldn't resist and decided to head back. Once inside we grabbed a beer for each hand and headed front and center.

Jing Jang
Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong

As we walked in, Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong were performing on the stage. I got to hear a few songs and liked it. I remember reading some buzz about them and I could see why. I'll have to check out some more of their stuff online.

Grand Ole Party
Grand Ole Party

As Grand Ole Party was setting up, I told my friends to take notice and pay attention cause they rock. Looking around the crowd, it didn't seem many people knew who they were. They are led by drummer/singer who has a Karen O demeanor to her. I'm really glad I got to check them out and I'll admit it, was singing along to their songs. They sound great live and I'm glad my friends dug em'.

Saul Williams
Saul Williams

I believe this is my sixth time seeing Saul Williams and I couldn't have been more ecstatic. He has so much energy and speaks with a purpose. The crowd went wild for him. He played one of my favorites, "List of Demands" and finished his set with his version of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", while it seemed like the entire crowd sang along.

The Lou Reed Tribute featured numerous bands doing Lou Reed covers: What Laura Says Thinks and Feels (the drummer informed me they had just learned to play their two songs earlier in the day), Joseph Arthur, Dr. Dog, Ezra Furman, Thurston Moore (who jumped into the crowd head first and ruined his guitar) and The New Wave Bandits, My Morning Jacket, and even Moby. Lou Reed came out to play to play "Take A Walk On The Wild Side" and it just felt so surreal to be there. LOU REED!!

Pharrell
Pharrell

N.E.R.D. came to the stage as people were getting impatient because the sound guys took forever to setup. Seriously, there was so much equipment. There were two drum kits, numerous keyboards, guitars and people everywhere. Pharrell was blinged out like no other. It was a phenomenal performance and they even brought a few girls on.

SXSW Recap / The Fader Fort 3.15.08

Santogold
Santogold at The Fader Fort

Santogold came out first rocked the hell out of the place and while there is certainly plenty of room for M.I.A comparisons she completely held her own. She had her two back up dancers that never cracked a smile and asked the crowd to "MySpace her" with a name for the duo. Spank Rock was certainly the grimiest show of the week although it was completely expected. He was joined onstage by Santogold at one point and even thought the set was quick it was easily one of the best I saw all week. 2 Live Crew was kind of a let down so we took off. No Luke?
