Gorilla Vs Bear Announces Festival | July 23rd at Granada Theater (Dallas)

I trust his taste more than most so when Gorilla Vs Bear hinted at his first festival a few days ago I was all ears. Today we have the line up announcement and if you read GVsB regularly you can tell that he chose a lot of his favorites was very meticulous in his choices. The final product is a very solid day of music. I for one will be heading down to Dallas to take part and I highly suggest that all of you do the same.

A brief description of the line up via Gorilla Vs Bear:

The inaugural lineup couldn't be much more representative of the inspiration and history behind this blog, as it features our current favorite band (White Denim), the newest endeavor of one of my favorite rappers of all-time, and the creator of the best album of 2011 to date (Shabazz Palaces), the debut of the new project from a Dallas icon* and founder of one of the most beloved bands in the history of our hometown, and much more. The bill is rounded out by a few of our favorite -- and most posted about -- artists that are currently making music: Julianna Barwick, Grimes (who'll be coming off a stint opening for Lykke Li's current North American tour), Sleep ∞ Over, Pure X, Sunset, and Dreamed, with DJ sets coming between bands from Dallas' own Sober.

*Tim DeLaughter's (Polyphonic Spree) new project Preteen Zenith will also perform.

SXSW 2011: Gorilla vs Bear :: Mexican Summer Unofficial/Official Hybrid Showcase

One of the better line ups that has been announced so far and of course it comes from Gorilla vs Bear. The party goes down at Klub Krucial (right next door to Emo's on 6th Street side) and this party is a hybrid of official and unofficial. The bands in red will be a part of the unofficial party and that will be open to the public while the bands in white will be a part of the official showcase and a wristband will be required. And no you can't hide in the bathroom.

El Guincho at Gorilla Vs Booze

The party that got it all started was the Gorilla vs Booze at the Peacock. We got there a little early so we had no problems getting in, but it filled up quickly (it's a small venue). We wanted to stay longer but it was so miserably hot. We ended up taking in the sounds of El Guincho, White Denim, and White Williams. Kinda bummed we didn't get to see Ghosthustler. As we exited, there was a huge line of people clamoring to get inside. Check the video from White Williams, it's shaky but gives you an idea of the crowd in the room...
