Pachanga Fest 2012 | Full Line Up, Set Times and Ticket Giveaway

We announced the initial 2012 Pachanga Music Festival line up a few weeks ago and after weeks of waiting we are happy to announce the full line up is today along with set times for both days. The festival will once again be held at Fiesta Gardens in Austin, TX on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12.

Saturday will feature International, national and local favorites Los Lonely Boys, Chico Trujillos, Ana Tijoux, Alejandro Escovedo, Forro in the Dark, Ruben Ramos and The Mexican Revolution, La Santa Cecilia, Girl In A Coma, and Ultra8201 favorites Politics will be making their first ever festival appearance while 19-time Latin Grammy and double Grammy winners Calle 13 (video above) will perform for the first time in Austin as headliners for the inaugural Friday night show.

Set Times

“Pachanga Ganga” two-day ticket packages are available now for $45 ($60 day of show) and include entrance to both Calle 13 on Friday night and the fiesta all day Saturday. “Pachanga Ganga” single Friday night Calle 13 tickets are $33 ($43 day of show) and single day Saturday tickets are $15 ($25 day of show) through April 19. VIP tickets are available Saturday ONLY and are $45 for the early bird ($65 day of show) and include air conditioning, indoor restrooms, limited complimentary alcoholic beverages and unlimited non-alcoholic beverages as well as tastings from Austin’s favorite Latina restaurants including Takoba and Papitino’s.

Ultra8201 will be giving away TWO sets of passes to the festival over the next few weeks. Just fill out the entry form for a chance to win.

Pachanga Fest 2012 Announced | May 11 & 12 at Fiesta Gardens

Today, the Pachanga Latino Music Festival, the Latin-themed music, cultural arts and food festival, announced the initial music lineup for the 2012 festival. 19-time Latin Grammy and double Grammy Winners Calle 13 will perform for the first time in Austin as headliners for the inaugural Friday night show of the festival in partnership with local indie promoters Knuckle Rumbler.

The festival will be held at Fiesta Gardens in Austin, TX on Friday, May 11and Saturday, May 12. Saturday will feature International, national and local favorites Los Lonely Boys, Chico Trujillos, Ana Tijoux, Alejandro Escovedo, Forro in the Dark, Ruben Ramos and The Mexican Revolution, La Santa Cecilia, Girl In A Coma as well as Niños Rock Pachanga, the hands-on kids festival. “We are thrilled to bring one of the biggest Latin music acts Calle 13 to Austin for the first time,” says founder Rich Garza. “Every act on this bill is amazing, and I know I say every year this is the best year, but this is the best year.”

Pachanga Latino Festival Announces 2011 Line Up

Last year was my first experience at the Pachanga Latino Music Festival and it was such a great one I have been waiting patiently for some kind of an announcement on this years plans. Luckily that announcement came in today and with this initial line up I can say that they have out done themselves. For those not familiar with Pachanga it is a Latin themed music festival but what makes it so progressive is that it hosts various genres of Latin artists ranging from rock to mariachi to hip hop. The initial line up is below. The festival will be held on Saturday May 21st at Fiesta Gardens and tickets are on sale at pachangafest.com, Waterloo Records and all Front Gate Tickets outlets, including frontgatetickets.com. A portion of all proceeds will benefit the FuturoFund Austin.

Early Bird pricing will be in place until April 19 with advance single GA tickets available for $15.00 ($25.00 after April 19) and Saturday VIP tickets for $45 ($60.00 after April 19). VIP tickets include complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, two (2) drink tickets, light snacks from the best chefs in Texas, air conditioned lounge and indoor restrooms. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Before I take off to Fiesta Gardens I thought I would share some of my top picks for todays Pachanga Latino Festival. The line up boasts an very diverse group of entertainers so there is a little something for everyone. If you read this blog it's safe to say that we share the same musical tastes so I thought I would share my top picks for today. The entire grid is also below. If you haven't purchased a ticket yet they will be available at the doors.

Girl In A Coma

Who: Naming themselves in homage of the Smiths' song "Girlfriend in a Coma," Girl in a Coma started in San Antonio, TX, with bassist Jenn Alva and drummer Phanie Diaz, two best friends who bonded thanks to a shared interest in Nirvana and the Smiths. The duo endured several failed experiments in both band lineups and musical styles before discovering that Nina Diaz, Phanie's younger sister, possessed talent as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter.

Why: Because they are named after a Smiths song and eventually went on to open several dates for Morrissey.

Grupo Fantasma featuring Larry Harlow

Who:The progressive genius of Grupo Fantasma, (Austin, TX) now in the tenth year of its long and intriguing musical journey, comes to life on El Existential set for a May 11th, 2010 release on Nat Geo Music. Known as the funkiest, finest, and hardest working Latin orchestra to come out of the United States in the last decade, the band has garnered critical acclaim worldwide for their adventurous albums, prudent songwriting and unprecedented live shows.

Why: Because Prince digs them and they are an Austin treasure. The real sell though is that they will be joined by the legendary Larry Harlow. Check out Larry performing with another great band The Mars Volta in the vid below.

Hacienda

Who: This Mexican-American quartet blends a raw yet sophisticated style of pop music with harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and Beach Boys. As fate would have it, a demo of 6 songs landed in the hands of Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, and the band's life was forever changed. Soon after they were opening for The Black Keys in Austin Texas, as well as for Dr. Dog, gaining some much needed exposure.

Why: They were Dan Aurebach's backing band during solo tour and are recording their latest in The Black Keys hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Bomba Estereo

Who: Bomba Estéreo (Bogata, Colombia) make psychedelic cumbia and are from Bogotá, Colombia. The group, a musical project formed by Simón Mejía [w/ singer Liliana Saumet] in 2005, represent a new sound coming from Colombia. Their music merges folk sounds from the Colombian caribbean coast like cumbia, bullerengue and champeta mixed with electronica, reggae and hip-hop producing an explosive dance sound. Live shows involve 4 musicians combined with live video projections.

Why: Psychedelic Cumbia. Nuff said. If you miss them tonight they will also be doing an in store at End of an Ear tomorrow afternoon.

I missed out on this last year and have been kicking myself ever since. This years line up is even more solid boasting some of the finest latino acts around and don't even get me started on the fact that Larry Harlow will be joining Grupo Fantasma!! Fiesta Gardens is a hidden gem in this town so this should make for a fantastic weekend. Early bird tickets are on sale now for $15 (a steal); price increases to $20 after April 20th. VIP tickets are also available for $60 currently ($75 later).
