Pachanga Fest 2012 | Full Line Up, Set Times and Ticket Giveaway

We announced the initial 2012 Pachanga Music Festival line up a few weeks ago and after weeks of waiting we are happy to announce the full line up is today along with set times for both days. The festival will once again be held at Fiesta Gardens in Austin, TX on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12.

Saturday will feature International, national and local favorites Los Lonely Boys, Chico Trujillos, Ana Tijoux, Alejandro Escovedo, Forro in the Dark, Ruben Ramos and The Mexican Revolution, La Santa Cecilia, Girl In A Coma, and Ultra8201 favorites Politics will be making their first ever festival appearance while 19-time Latin Grammy and double Grammy winners Calle 13 (video above) will perform for the first time in Austin as headliners for the inaugural Friday night show.

Set Times

“Pachanga Ganga” two-day ticket packages are available now for $45 ($60 day of show) and include entrance to both Calle 13 on Friday night and the fiesta all day Saturday. “Pachanga Ganga” single Friday night Calle 13 tickets are $33 ($43 day of show) and single day Saturday tickets are $15 ($25 day of show) through April 19. VIP tickets are available Saturday ONLY and are $45 for the early bird ($65 day of show) and include air conditioning, indoor restrooms, limited complimentary alcoholic beverages and unlimited non-alcoholic beverages as well as tastings from Austin’s favorite Latina restaurants including Takoba and Papitino’s.

Ultra8201 will be giving away TWO sets of passes to the festival over the next few weeks. Just fill out the entry form for a chance to win.

Show Spotlight: Politics at Beauty Bar Tonight (3/30)

We are sponsoring a last minute show at Beauty Bar tonight with Politics and since we didn't give you that much notice it's only fair that there's no cover. Doors are at 9:30 and the show starts at 10pm. Check out the video for one of my favorite tracks from the band. It's called "Warning" and it was taken at the Bleet Up last December. Show Spotlight + Giveaway: The Black and White Years and Politics at Lamberts (1/29)

Tomorrow night should be a good one. The Black and White Years have been playing high profile shows around town for a while now but here we have them playing a very intimate show at Lambert's [MAP]. If you know this spot you know that the capacity is limited to only 150 people so this would be an ideal time to catch the band. To sweeten the deal Politics will be opening the show. We had such a huge turn out last year that this time around we thought we would give ourselves a little more breathing room so we are taking over the rooftop terrace at Whole Foods HQ downtown. Everything thing you need in one place. Samples of both food and drinks, pop up shops for you fashionistas and a full size skating rink.

MoTel Aviv are an Austin foursome with a particularly potent brand of poppy rock and roll. Their major strength is in the songwriting. When all systems are firing 100 percent, it’s hard to find fault in MoTel Aviv’s assembly of the moving parts or their delivery of a hook. If the jangling, ringing guitar work doesn’t get you, you ignore the stomping beat and you’re somehow impervious to a chorus that easily gets lodged auditory canal like an earwig, then, who knows, you might be allergic to fun. - Austinist

Politics

This Austin alt-indie group can be found regularly at some of Austin’s favorite rock haunts like Mohawk and The Parish performing with other local acts such as The Authors, MoTel Aviv and Whitman. The music of Politics is thankfully much less complicated and messy than the practice of politics. Layered guitars pinging and fuzzed out are in league with the blended pulse of the rhythm section and the echo of haunting vocals. “Light In Your Eyes” is a great place to start - Austinist

Show Spotlight: The Authors and Politics at Lamberts | Friday (7/30)

I am really excited about this one. Two of Austin's most exciting up and coming bands playing on one stage. A bold statement but a true statement. The Authors will be taking the stage for the first time in a few months after taking time off to record their first full length "Get Haunted" which will be available in September. Politics will be offering support after playing to a full house a couple of weeks ago at Stubb's. I suggest everyone get there early on Friday night. Lambert's is small and this show will fill up fast. Don't miss out on a chance to see two of Austin's brightest in such an intimate setting.

Andy Warhol's Birthday | Friday August 6th at The Mohawk

Not since '65 has this city felt so alive. In honor of the hero of American Pop Art, the Mohawk will be hosting a party for Andy Warhol's Birthday on Friday, August 6th, 2010. In the tradition of its previous all-out parties like ATX Emerge and Massive Art Attack, Massive Beacon has put together another rowdy night of debauchery. Those who come will have their ears and eyeballs treated to a finely tuned sensory overload of bands, DJs, decorations, costumes, interactive art booths and of course enough swag to go around.

The event coordinators have taken every step to make sure that Warhol's spirit is present. Massive Beacon will transform the Mohawk’s upstairs patio into an immersive environment with throwback decor, a photo booth by Trevor Ray Thompson, and live stop-motion animation at a booth called The Edge of Imagination Station, created by one of the most unique San Marcos-based inventors of recent years, Johnny Villarreal.

In true factory-party form there will be a live screen-printing set up, manned by Austin’s arts enthusiast Twin Villain, in association with (th)ink Tank. They will have apparel for sale and printing on-site but partygoers can also have their own clothes printed on during the show.

And of course there will be tripped-out performances from local psyche-rockers Ringo Deathstarr, Hatchet Wound, Politics, and Prayer For Animals, and a DJ set from the perennially fashionable Team Fabrication.

There will even be a factory-person look-a-like contest with a grip of prizes from our sponsors, judged by local socialite Richard Gonzalez (me!) of the blog Ultra8201.

And partygoers can eat like Manhattanites, with free sausage bites and veggie treats from Frank, Austin's premier venue for cold beer and artisan sausage. Those provisions will last until 10:30 (so get there early!), but Massive Beacon will leave the first 250 people through the door with something to take home: $10 gift cards for Frank’s hot dogs.

To top it all off, the Mohawk will be adorned with the trimmings of Warhol's legendary shindigs: red and silver balloons and stacks of reproduced Brillo boxes.

The party starts at 9 and is $7 with an RSVP on Do512 or $10 at the door.

I am very proud to announce and invite everyone to my birthday celebration Thursday June 10th at The Parish [RSVP]. Not to be confused with the anniversary show a few months back this time we are celebrating my actual birthday. I almost went the traditional way of having a quiet dinner and then getting together with some friends but that didn't just feel right. I am a music blogger and throw parties for every other occasion so why not have a show? And if I was going to have a show why not have some of the most exciting bands in Austin come and play it. So that is exactly what I did and here is the line up. Joining me in the celebration will be L.A.X, Love at 20 and Politics. The talented Alison Narro will be on hand with the photo booth we have come to know, love and expect in Austin. All the proceeds from the show will benefit Ultra8201 so instead of having to look for that perfect gift (kidding) you will be giving me a little help to make the site even better. In return I promise a night of great music and a really good time. Not a bad deal right?

L.A.X [Listen]

L.A.X began in 2005 with Andrew Collins and Erin Jantzen as an electro duo with a fresh sound and invigorating live performance. In 2007, they self-released "The L EP", an eclectic hybrid of electronic dance tracks that quickly established the group in the heart of the Austin, TX party scene. By early 2009, the duo had grown three-fold, adding Yadira Brown (Vocals), Jon Oswald (Drums), Rory Allen Phillips (Guitar), Chris D'Annunzio (Bass), and occasionally joined by Santiago Vela (percussion). These additions have expanded the group's musical range and elevated their status as a must-see live act. Collins thrives on cultural fusions apparent from the hip hop elements of "Don’t Push" to the reggaeton anthem, "Sacuda las Caderas". Jantzen and Brown, lead vocals, lure and dazzle the listener with unprecedented lyrics and melodies. Their breakthrough performances at 2009's ACL Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest and SXSW 2010 have been followed up with a solid string of shows in Austin and other cities around Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. L.A.X has worked their way up in the ranks of the Austin music scene and is a prime contender for opening and after party slots for the heavy hitting electronic acts that filter through Austin’s large venues. Thus far, L.A.X has opened for Kraak and Smaak, The Juan McLean, and Glass Candy and had the headlining slot for C3‘s Cut Copy after show at Stubbs. In May, the group released their highly anticipated sophomore effort, "The A EP", celebrating with shows in Austin, Houston and Dallas, TX. LOVE AT 20 [Listen]

Featuring Former members of Austin’s “Clap! Clap!” (Mike Groener, vox/piano/guitar; Louis Lemuz, bass; Mark Toohey, drums) have come together to assemble a newer and more polished (rock) version of their illustrious dance sound. With guitar-driven hooks and lyrics that are dying to be sung along with, Love at 20 desires to be where solid chart-toppers are today (but no auto-tune here, thank goodness). If Maroon 5’s Adam Levine was more into Brit rock bands like Stereophonics rather than Prince, he would have called his band Love at 20. [Source]

POLITICS [Listen]

After first forming in 2006 the band played Austin with some of the local music scenes best and brightest. They went on to tour the west coast and performed with high profile acts like Dawes and Glass Candy. After a brief hiatus and some line up changes the band came back strong last year with performances at The Ghost Room, The Parish and Mohawk during FFF Fest. Politics will enter the studio this summer and plan for a Fall EP release.
