Last Night: The Great Nostalgic and The Authors @ Tripp T-Shirts

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to our event at Tripp T-Shirts on Saturday! It was incredibly hot, but it was definitely nice to cool down with some free Lone Stars and Sweet Leaf Teas! We had a great time, hopefully you did too! Thanks to DJ Orion who kept the party going while spinning a little bit of everything. It was also finally great to see The Great Nostalgic and The Authors. Both bands were incredible live! We'd like to thank the good people at Tripp T-Shirts for their awesomeness and our good friends from Knucklerumbler for helping us put everything together. Alright enough with all that, check out our pics and videos we shot of the bands down below.

Ultra8201 Presents : The Great Nostalgic, The Authors and DJ Orion | June 27th

June Prints for Non-Profit

We are really proud and excited to announce our next show taking place on June 27th at 6pm. This time around we have teamed up with the very awesome crew at Knuckle Rumbler as well as the fine people at Rare Magazine, Sweet Leaf Tea and Tripp Custom T-Shirts for an awesome evening of music. Best of all it benefits the SIMS Foundation and it's FREE! Each band on the bill will have their own T-Shirt designs for sale with $5 dollars of every shirt sold going to SIMS. Here is some info on the foundation:

From the SIMS website:

More musicians flock to Austin every year in search of an inclusive and inspiring community in which to work. Unfortunately, with the rising cost of living and increasing competition for jobs in the music business, many of these musicians find themselves struggling financially and emotionally. The challenges of being a musician can include personal issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and alcohol and substance abuse.

Nearly 1,500 musicians have bettered their lives through SIMS services. “SIMS saved my life,” is a quote that has been repeated by SIMS clients throughout the years. SIMS relies on community support to continue its vital services.”

We handpicked some of our favorite musicians in Austin for this event and are proud to have them on the bill. Here is some background info on the bands....

The Great Nostalgic started off as a solo recording project by multi-instrumentalist Abram Shook, who at the time was on bass, sax, and synth duties for The Laughing. While recording the album in 2007, Shook became consumed with the music, putting all of his time and creative energy into it, eventually quitting his current band to launch The Great Nostalgic as his main gig.

Born in a sweaty garage in Austin, Texas during the summer of 2006, The Authors have gradually honed their sound to what it is today. With a mix of danceable beats supplied by drummer Angela Stroud and bass heavy melodies by Josh Haben, The Authors have created a sound that they can call their own. Singer/guitarist Justin Prater writes lyrics with social a conscious and a wounded heart, while guitarist/keyboardist Ben Meza weaves a sonic tapestry of reverb drenched guitars and haunting keys. The band is influenced by the sounds of early New Order, The Cure, and current bands like Whitest Boy Alive, and Phoenix.

Dj Orion has been crafting musical chemistry in Austin, Tx for the last seven years. With a foundation in Salsa, hip hop and electronica, Orion's reportoire has expanded to include the toughest dancehall riddims, Cumbia y Merengue, mash-ups, grime, baile funk, dubstep, jazz, minimal techno, bassline and most things in between. He rejects filler in favor of strictly the finest club-floor knockouts. Dj Orion's Raw Word Records studio continues to produce for burgeoning acts such as Yadira Brown and StormShadow, and his Technics have cleaned up nicely for hundreds of satisfies clients.

We hope to see everyone out on the 27th. Did we mention before the event is free and complimentary drinks will be provided.? What better way to kick off a Saturday night?? See you then....

This Friday :: The Great Nostalgic Album Release Party w/ {{{Sunset}}}, The Sour Notes at Hole in the Wall

releasepartyposter

This Friday sure is a busy night (w/ Death Cab for Cutie, Monarchs, Paul Green School of Rock, The Tunnels all playing shows) and although we mentioned this show on our weekly recommendations on Monday, we thought it deserved a post of it's own.

Relatively new Austin band, The Great Nostalgic is performing this Friday at Hole in the Wall with {{{Sunset}}} and The Sour Notes to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut (read glowing reviews from Austin Town Hall and Two Groove). Bonus discs, which include remixes from Many Birthdays and Businessman DJs, in addition to a music video for "Queen and Country" will be given out as well with the purchase of the new album ($8). The show starts at 10PM and will feature guest musicians from Pink Nasty and Hard Proof Afrobeat's horn section.
