Bon Iver @ Air Studios (4AD/Jagjaguwar Session)

Recorded in AIR Studio's Lyndurst Hall - a building that was originally a church and missionary school designed in 1880 by the great Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse (designer of the Natural History Museum) - Justin Vernon was joined only by Sean Carey, with the pair positioning themselves opposite one another at two grand pianos. Although neither Justin nor Sean's first instrument is piano, they were able to remodel the songs in a way that showcases their complimentary vocals and, perhaps more strikingly, a seemingly effortless ability to experiment with form and structure. Austin City Limits Announces Bon Iver Taping

As previously mentioned by BV Austin, Andy Langer tweeted about a supposed Bon Iver ACL taping going down on April 25th. Today, the incredibly awesome people at Austin City Limits confirmed the newly Grammy winning (and deservedly so) Bon Iver will be performing for the famed show on the aforementioned date.

As always if you'd like to have a chance to be one of the lucky ones to win tickets, be sure to become one of their Facebook friends, Twitter amigos, and follow the official ACL blog.

The National Debut Two New Songs, "Rylan" & "I Need My Girl"

The National's show here in Austin this past weekend was just about perfect (we have pictures/videos to prove it). Seriously, I don't think I've ever heard Austin Music Hall sound so good. Seeing them again live further entrenches them as one of favorite bands. The only complaint (and it's a petty one) was secretly hoping the band would perform a new song or two. Well, I finally got my wish, albeit a few days later.

The band recently performed at Toronto's Glenn Gould Studio for CBC Radio Show Q, and the set included two amazing new songs entitled, "Rylan" and "I Need My Girl". Both songs are down below, so grab your headphones and enjoy. (via)

The band also performed an incredible acoustic version of "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks", with a special appearance from Bon Iver. I really loved how they finished the Austin show with this song. It was such a beautiful thing to see the entire crowd singing along.

New Bon Iver | "Calgary"

Justin Vernon has easily one of the most incredible voices in music. Take a listen to the first single ("Calgary") to emerge off the new Bon Iver, Bon Iver album. Thankfully we won't have to wait too long to hear the rest of the new disc, as it's due out June 21st via Jagjagjuwar.

If you'd like to take a look at the lyrics for the new album, you can do so here. Also, if you'd like to see how Gregory Euclide came up with the beautiful artwork, he's posted the videos on Youtube (Pt. 1, Pt. 2, Pt. 3) and My Love For You also has an interview with him detailing the process.

Sydney Festival 2009 (Feat. Videos of St. Vincent)

St Vincent: Marry Me (Via Shoot The Player)

St Vincent: What Me Worry? (Via Shoot The Player)

St. Vincent took part in Sydney Festival's "Play Me, I'm Yours" public piano project in addition to playing three sold-out performances at The Famous Spiegeltent.  For more info on the project, click here.

A little background on Sydney Festival:
Sydney Festival was originally conceived by the Sydney Committee, the NSW State Government and the City of Sydney with a view to attracting people into the city centre during the holiday month of January.

The first Festival took place in 1977 and it has since grown to become one of Australia's largest annual cultural celebrations with an international reputation for modern, popular and intelligent programming. In many ways it is probably still best understood as a celebration of Sydney and its style and energy reflect the confidence, diversity and vigour of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

For three weeks each January the Festival offers a rich program of around 80 events involving upwards of 500 artists from Australia and abroad covering dance, theatre, music, visual arts, cross media and forums. In any given year, it makes use of most of the main theatres across the city including Sydney Theatre, CarriageWorks, City Recital Hall and venues at the Sydney Opera House.

Sydney Festival also presents a number of quality, free outdoor events such as the long-running Festival in the Domain with Jazz and Symphony concerts, each attracting up to 100,000 people. In 2008 the Festival introduced a new opening event, Festival First Night, for which people are invited to take to the streets to enjoy a large-scale celebration of music and performance. In its inaugural year, Festival First Night attracted 200,000 people into the heart of the city.

The Sydney Festival usually attracts a total audience of approximately 1 million people across all of its events each year, making it the most attended cultural event in Australia. [Via Sydney Festival]

In addition to St. Vincent, other artists who played this year's Sydney Festival include Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Z-Trip, Bill Callahan., and even A-Trak and Santogold.

Today and tomorrow, Bon Iver is playing a couple of shows (here and here).  Juana Molina also has scheduled sets on January 30, 31 and February 1.

Sydney Festival also has a flickr account to check out all the pictures and even a blog, which you can check out here.
