New Black Rebel Motorcycle Club | "Beat The Devil's Tattoo" [Stream]

Late last year, we mentioned that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club would be releasing their new album in March 2010. The first song to surface happens to also be the title track "Beat The Devil's Tattoo". Named after a phrase in Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Devil in the Belfry', the song almost didn't make the cut for the band's fifth album, with the finishing touches being completed the night before the album's deadline.

As told to Spinner:
"We called our engineer in the middle of the night and worked all night 'til the sun came up," says bassist Robert Levon Been. "The next day we delivered the record to our label and it went straight to the mastering lab. It was a mad dash, hearts pounding down to the last second." [Via]

BRMC Announces New Album, Spring 2010 North American Tour Dates

One of our favorite bands Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is set to release their fifth album, entitled Beat The Devil's Tattoo, on March 9th via their own label, Abstract Dragon. Recorded mostly in the same studio in Philadelphia as the one they used for Howl, it also marks the first album with new drummer Leah Shapiro.

Just last month the band released a live DVD which features over two hours of live concert footage from three sold out shows in Berlin, Dublin and Glasgow during 2007 while in support of Baby 81. It also includes a bonus CD that features 14 songs from the concert and a 48-page booklet of photos of the band. Purchase it here.

BRMC will hit the road starting in late February and plan to tour throughout North America until early April. They're skipping Austin this time around, but that may change since they'll be in Texas during SXSW. We'll see how that all goes down.

BRMC Lose Member, Hire New Drummer

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have parted ways with drummer, Nick Jago. Their new drummer is Leah Shapiro, who was just on tour with The Raveonettes (we saw Leah at SXSW and she was straight business onstage, standing with her drum). Nick released a statement via his myspace and Robert and Peter clarified through BRMC's myspace. Read both explanations down below.

From Nick Jago, drummer of BRMC:
I just had dinner with Rob and Pete and, well, I'm not in the band anymore. They are going into rehearsals tomorrow with Leah, she just
finished touring with The Raveonettes and is super nice and cool. They presented it to me like they need a break, I took it as I am fired again and to be honest with you I respect their decision. I don't make it easy for them, I hope to be able to play with them again in the future as a reunion as there is really no bad feeling other than we all wanna be happy and right now we are not. Maybe playing drums for BRMC all the time is not my calling and there is something else I'm supposed to do. We will see. I’m sorry to all the fans and know that the drums are in good hands with Leah.

My best
hope to see you soon.

Pete and Robs response:
To all of you who have read or heard about Nick's myspace posting, Peter and I would like to clarify a few things from our perspective. It's true, Nick wont be joining us for the upcoming European tour, but it's not true that he is fired. We just feel Nick needs time to sort out exactly what he wants right now.His heart and all his energy and attention is on his own solo project and he needs to see that through. We welcome his singing and songwriting in BRMC, but his focus, at least at the present time, is on doing his own thing and we wish him the best.He is our brother, our musical partner, and we love him dearly and look forward to playing with him again in the future.
