Metric Announce New Album Synthetica + Track Listing Details

One of our favorite bands is finally releasing a new album. Metric is returning to the scene with their fifth album Synthetica on June 12th. Produced by the band's lead guitarist Jimmy Shaw and mixed by John O'Mahony (Coldplay, The Cribs, Emily Haines), the eleven-track effort will even include a song ("The Wanderlust") featuring Lou Reed.
Here's what singer Emily Haines had to say about the new record: "Synthetica is about staying home and wanting to crawl out of your skin from the lack of external stimulation...about forcing yourself to confront what you see in the mirror when you finally stand still long enough to catch a reflection...about being able to identify the original in a long line of reproductions. It's about what is real vs what is artificial." [via]
The album's first single "Youth Without Youth" should be hitting the interwebs at the beginning of May so keep a eye out. We'll do the same. You can read more about the album at Metric's official site.

Track Listing:
1. "Artificial Nocturne"
2. "Youth Without Youth"
3. "Speed the Collapse"
4. "Breathing Underwater"
5. "Dreams So Real"
6. "Lost Kitten"
7. "The Void"
8. "Synthetica"
9. "Clone"
10. "The Wanderlust" (feat. Lou Reed)
11. "Nothing But Time"

The Strokes Announce a March Release Date For New Album

About time is all we have to say! According to an interview with the BBC, bassist Nikolai Fraiture admits the band have finally finished their untitled fourth album and it's in the mixing stage with a release date scheduled sometime in March.

[The Strokes Official Site]

As per the BBC:
Speaking to Radio 1's Zane Lowe bassist Nikolai Fraiture confirmed that the follow-up to 2006's First Impressions Of Earth is "in the mixing stage".
He added that he felt the album would return to the New York band's "classic sound".
"Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth."
However, the bass player admitted that initial writing sessions for the album last year had been "weird" following a prolonged break.
In the five years since their last album four of the five members have released solo albums or been part of side projects.
"We didn't really break up but we didn't see each other for a long time," said Nikolai Fraiture.
"When you get back together there was a lot of weird energy flowing around. There are different dynamics in the group in different ways."
This time around lead singer Julian Casablancas recorded his vocals separately from the band, a different method from the way they've done it in the past.
Fraiture said: "Usually we're always in a room and changing stuff and doing it all together. It's all a learning experience."
In summer 2010 the band played a handful of high profile UK gigs at the Isle Of Wight and Rockness festivals but did not debut any new material.
"We didn't really want to play anything new because in the age of the internet we didn't want the new songs to be heard in a crappy way," admitted Fraiture.
"Those festival shows we wanted to give the fans what they wanted."
Whilst tour dates in support of the new album are yet to be announced the bassist confirmed the band would be "touring around the world".

Shearwater Release More Info on The Golden Archipelago

ole-861
As we alluded to last week, Shearwater plans to release their new album The Golden Archipelago on Feb. 23rd via Matador. Since then a little more info on the album has surfaced, including a new song entitled "Castaways". Take a listen down below.

Shearwater - Castaways (mp3)

Taken from Matablog:
The album is the third in a triptych of "mindblowingly beatiful, dense and ambitious excursions about man's impact on the natural world".

This time singer-songwriter Jonathan Meiburg turns his attention to life on islands – a world of lushness and austerity, silence and sudden cataclysms. From rising sea levels to displaced populations, Meiburg travels from the Falklands to Madgascar, from the Bikini Atoll to the Tierra Del Fuego.

The CD comes packaged with a 50-page perfect-bound book that is a set of extracts from a dossier of records, photos, regulations and images collected by Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg. The LP contains 2 bonus tracks & an MP3 download coupon (that includes the album + PDF of the dossier).

Preorder the album, and receive a 15% discount.

BRMC Announces New Album, Spring 2010 North American Tour Dates

One of our favorite bands Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is set to release their fifth album, entitled Beat The Devil's Tattoo, on March 9th via their own label, Abstract Dragon. Recorded mostly in the same studio in Philadelphia as the one they used for Howl, it also marks the first album with new drummer Leah Shapiro.

Just last month the band released a live DVD which features over two hours of live concert footage from three sold out shows in Berlin, Dublin and Glasgow during 2007 while in support of Baby 81. It also includes a bonus CD that features 14 songs from the concert and a 48-page booklet of photos of the band. Purchase it here.

BRMC will hit the road starting in late February and plan to tour throughout North America until early April. They're skipping Austin this time around, but that may change since they'll be in Texas during SXSW. We'll see how that all goes down.
