After the Vampire Weekends SOLD OUT show on Saturday the band, or rather bass player Chris Baio will be doing a DJ Set at Beauty Bar. As if that wasn't enough the Learning Secrets guys will be kicking off the evening. $5 bucks gets you in. Vampire Weekend | 2010 North American Tour Dates :: w/ Austin date (Stubb's)

The new year is ready to start off with a bang! In exactly one week Vampire Weekend's sophomore disc Contra will be released. If you'd like to grab a listen, the album is currently streaming at the band's myspace and also at NPR. Although not as strong as the debut as of yet, I have to say I'm enjoying it so far after a few spins.

Today, the band also announced plans for an extensive North American tour that includes a stop this Spring in Austin. Tickets ($25) for the April 10th concert at Stubb's go on sale this Friday at 10 am. This will sell out quickly, so please start the new year off right and don't procrastinate on this one.

New Vampire Weekend | "Cousins"

Last month we got word that Vampire Weekend would be releasing their new album Contra early next year. After the first single, "Horchata" surfaced earlier this month, it's time for another song of the sophomore album to hit your ears. The new song, "Cousins" (listen to a live version from MTV Canada down below) will be released with a B-side, "California English Pt. 2" and is due out Nov. 17th digitally and on 7" on Dec. 15th via XL. ACL Spotlight : Vampire Weekend

The kind of hype that only could be created in these modern times. Vampire Weekend went from unknowns to Spin cover artists overnight. Along with help from eager bloggers (like ourselves) who just love to pluck obscure bands from nowhere and hype them as the "next big thing". The band catapulted to an impressive level of success playing sold out shows and huge festivals all throughout 2008.

We managed to catch them before the initial hype at an indoor show at The Mohawk and post hype at the NPR showcase at The Parish during SXSW where the line wrapped around the block. Their self titled debut will more than likely make it on our best of list and they will wind down a year of extensive touring with a performance at the Austin City Limits festival. Despite the early set time I have no doubt they will be one of the biggest draws of the weekend.

The new video for Vampire Weekend's "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" starts with a preppy backyard party, to Ezra serenading a girl in a pink dress on a bed, and ends with the guys morphing into The Cure. Strange, huh?
